Kobras bested Eagles in the first division while Vikings pillaged Pacesetters in the second division, when the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association [GABA]/’Lets Bet Sports’ championship continued on Tuesday at the Burnham Court, Middle and Carmichael Streets.
Kobras edged Eagles by a 62-60 scoreline. Four scorers recorded double figures for the victors led by a 15-point effort from veteran sharp-shooter Trevor Smith.
The next best scorer with 13 points was Carlos Edwards, with the experienced duo of Travis Burnett and Garfield Grenville chipping in with 12 and 10 points correspondingly.
For the losers, Ryan Gullen top scored with 20 points with emerging star Travis Belgrave the next best scorer with 18 points. Supporting with eight and seven points apiece were Louis James and Ewart Smith. The contest started brightly for Kobras, as the first period ended 15-12. Kobras extended their lead in the second quarter, netting 17 points while restricting Eagles to a paltry eight points to lead 32-20 heading into the halftime interval.
However, Eagles reduced the deficit in the third stanza, outscoring Kobras 22-17 to enter the fourth period trailing at 42-49. Kobras then survived a fourth quarter assault to secure the hard-fought win, as they were outscored 18-13.
Meanwhile, Vikings defeated Pacesetters 77-69 in the second division third place playoff. Jeffrey Wilkinson and Shane Joseph top scored with 26 points each. They were assisted by Osafa Johnson who scored 16 points.
On the other side, Quincy DosSantos and Zion Gray tallied 21 points each while Sherwin Kyte and Roger John chipped in with 10 and seven points respectively. Up to press time,
several matches were being staged at the same venue.
