Defending champion Fruta Conquerors dismantled newcomer Santos FC 4-0, when the Guyana Football Federation’s Elite League resumed on Wednesday at the Georgetown Football Club ground, Bourda.
Jahaal Greaves broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, slotting into the back of the net after latching onto a squared pass from Nicholas MacArthur.
The lead ballooned to 2-0 three minutes onward with Dennis Edwards tapping home unchallenged after receiving a squared pass.
Simeon Moore made it 3-0 in the 71st minute. It was a brilliant individual effort from the marauding left-back, who lobbed the advancing goalkeeper with the outside of the right foot into the top right corner.
The scoreline was then sealed in the 85th minute as Eon Alleyne uncorked a powerful strike into the roof of the net from inside the right of the penalty box.
The tournament will continue today at the Eve Leary ground. At 18:30hrs, Santos FC locks horns with Ann’s Grove, while home side Guyana Police Force battles Fruta Conquerors from 20:30hrs.
The event will resume tomorrow at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground, Linden. The Guyana Defence Force will oppose Milerock from 20:00hrs in the lone fixture.
In the final two matches of the weekend, slated for Sunday at the Den Amstel ground, Western Tigers will engage Victoria Kings at 14:00hrs, with Den Amstel battling Buxton United from 16:00hrs.
