The University of Guyana (UG) is in a commanding position after day one of the Noble House Seafoods two-day second division contest against Diplomats at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) yesterday.
Diplomats, at stumps, were 187-6 in 39 overs, still trailing UG by 114 runs. Nigel Simpson is unbeaten on 71 while Miguel Parks and Keron Roberts both grabbed two wickets to lead UG’s bowling effort.
Earlier, UG, after winning the toss, piled on 301 – 4 declared with opener Godfrey Thakurdin smashing 15 fours and two maximums in his top score of 85. He shared in a second-wicket stand with Ricardo Davis (76) while Ershaad Ali (57*) and Melroy Stephenson (47) all had handy scores against a Diplomats attack spearheaded by seamer Rayson Gill who grabbed 2-54.
