Dear Editor,
Did the Director General of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) actually say that the only way they can tap into Fly Jamaica’s deposit (to refund passengers) is if the company shuts down operations? To use Mr Roopnarine’s words that is an absurdity.
Commonsense says that if a company temporarily shuts down operations and has debtors you refund the people from the lodged deposit, and before the company is allowed to restart operations they have to first replenish the paid out amount.
What the government needs to recognize is that the refund that Fly Jamaica will eventually pay does not include the astronomical amount paid to access a last-minute flight at the busiest time of the year, nor for the massive inconvenience suffered.
Yours faithfully,
