Mahadeo takes fourth ‘fittest man’ title

Dillon Mahadeo did it again. On the steaming asphalt of the National Park tarmac, the CrossFit 592 standout once again out ran, out lifted, out jumped and outlasted his worthy challengers to be once again crowned with the prestigious title of the fittest man in the 592.

GCC defeats MYO to set up final against Everest

The Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) on Sunday evening at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), secured a thrilling one-wicket win over the season’s surprise package, the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) to move into the final of the New Building Society, second-division 40-overs tournament.   The win for GCC came on the back of a match-defining half-century by Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed which bettered a searing spell from Saheed Gittins who grabbed a `five-for’ to almost bowl his side into the final.   GCC, who will play Everest in the final was set a target of 176 to win, reached 177-9 in 31.3 overs.

Roberts bags 7-39 to bowl UG to commanding win over Diplomats

Seamer Keon Roberts produced a match-winning spell of seam bowling to bowl the University of Guyana (UG) to a commanding 146-run win over Diplomats in the latest round of the Noble House Seafoods two-day second division tournament against Diplomats at the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) on Sunday.   The day began with Diplomats resuming on 187-6, still trailing UG by 114 runs.

Capital FC, Blueberry Hill win on opening night

Capital FC and Blueberry Hill secured opening night wins on Sunday in the inaugural Linden Mayor’s Cup Knockout Football Championships at the Mackenzie Sports Club [MSC] ground, Linden.  Capital FC defeated Amelia’s Ward Panthers by a 2-0 score-line.

Stag Beer Futsal c/ships resumes today

The Stag Beer Futsal Championships will resume today at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.  In the opening match, Germans will oppose Ol Skool at 20:00hrs, with Silver Bullets tackling Spot-7 from 20:30hrs and Tiger Bay opposing Albouystown-B at 21:00hrs.  In the fourth clash, Kingston will engage Broad Street from 21:30hrs, while Sophia will battle California Square at 22:00hrs and North East La Penitence will lock horns with Fearless from 22:30hrs.  In the final two matches, Gold is Money will match skills with Ansa McAl at 23:00hrs and Sparta Boss will take aim at Norton Street from 23:30hrs.

President David Granger

The announcement just over a week ago that the first phase of President David Granger’s medical treatment in Cuba for Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma has been successfully completed and that his doctors are satisfied with his response to the chemotherapy which he has had to undergo and with his overall physical well-being, is a development that should be welcomed and celebrated by Guyana.
