Daniesha Harris, a housewife who police allege threw a bag of cannabis out a window after panicking when ranks showed up at her house, was yesterday charged with trafficking can-nabis.
Harris was granted bail in the sum of $120,000 after pleading not guilty to the charge, which was read to her by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
The charge alleges that on March 29th, at Campbellville, Georgetown, Harris had in her possession 91 grammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question, ranks of the Kitty Police Station went to Harris’s residence and confronted her at her front door but upon seeing them she ran into the house. A police officer, who was in the yard, then saw her throwing a bulky plastic bag through the window. Mansfield said the bag was later recovered and an inspection revealed that it contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems, suspected to be cannabis.
She was told of the allegation, cautioned and arrested.
Mansfield, however, had no objections to bail but requested that conditions be attached should bail be granted to Harris.
Harris was then granted bail on the condition that she reports to the Kitty Police Station every Friday until the completion of trial. The matter was then adjourned until April 24th.
