Two men were yesterday remanded to prison after they were charged with the murder of Sumintra Dinool, the elderly Albouystown businesswoman who was found dead in her home in 2014.
Appearing in the city courtroom of Magistrate Faith McGusty to answer to the charge were Malcolm Collie and Shaheed Ally.
Although the men were charged jointly for the crime, the charge was read to them separately.
It is alleged that both Collie and Ally, between June 14th and June 15th, 2014, at Barr Street, Albouystown, murdered Dinool in the course or furtherance of a robbery.
Neither of the men was required to enter a plea to the indictable offence.
Collie was represented by attorney Stanley Moore, while Ally was unrepresented. Moore made an application on behalf of Collie for him to be placed in the Georgetown prison and no other facility.
Police Prosecutor Seon Blackman, however, stated that the decision of where the accused is placed was not for the court to decide.
Both men were later remanded to prison and they are expected to make their next court appearance on April 23rd.
The body of Dinool, 65, was discovered by one of her sons in their Sussex and Barr streets home. According to the man, he had opened the front door with his keys and had noticed nothing amiss until he went into his room and found it completely ransacked. He made his way to her bedroom, where he discovered her bound to her bed, her hands and feet tied with telephone cables. Her mouth was also gagged.
