Reigning Cricket West Indies Super50 Champions, Barbados inched closer to completing the double with the addition of the T20 Blaze title after defeating Trinidad and Tobago by seven wickets in the penultimate round yesterday.
At the National Stadium, Providence, Barbados romped to their fourth straight win of the tournament after winning the toss and putting Trinidad in to bat.
Trinidad were contained to 136-6 from their 20 overs to which Barbados responded with 137-3 in 15.3 overs.
After losing Hayley Matthews for a third-ball duck, Barbados’ chase was once again anchored by a belligerent display of power hitting by Deandra Dottin who finished on 52 not out.
Dottin’s 32-ball knock consisted of five fours, one of which was flicked into the square leg boundary.
Dottin, who was batting with practically one hand after suffering a shoulder injury, showed no remorse, dropping to one knee and sweeping a delivery from seamer, Stacy Ann King over mid-wicket and later disposing a delivery from Leeann Kirby in the same area for the same result to finish the game.
Dottin was supported by Kyshona Knight in an unbroken 71-run partnership. Knight stroked five boundaries, two of which were consecutively hit off of Karishma Ramharack in a 16-run over. She finished unbeaten on 33 from 23 balls but was lucky to be put down on 16.
Knight’s twin sister, Kycia, who raced to 28 from 19 balls struck two fours and two sixes with one being dispatched over Anisa Mohammed’s head and into the sight screen.
She shared in a 41-run partnership for the second-wicket with Danielle Small (15) and 25 for the third-wicket with Dottin.
Earlier, in Trinidad’s innings, Barbados was generous in the field, dropping five catches as a limping Britney Cooper top scored with 31 from 24 balls with two boundaries.
She was dismissed trying to clear her front foot for a premeditated swipe but missed and was struck leg before wicket by Dottin who finished with 2-9.
King also got a decent start at the top of the order with 30 from 25 balls that was decorated with five boundaries before being trapped leg before wicket by Shakira Selman (2-19).
Melissa Aguilleira looked to up the scoring rate with a brisk unbeaten 29 that saw her hitting four boundaries but Trinidad suffered a collapse in the middle order.
Barbados is set to play Guyana in the last match today. They are the only team to play undefeated so far in the tournament.
