The Georgetown City Council apologises to the business community and residents of some sections of Georgetown for several overflowing skip bins that are at strategic locations in the City: Lombard Street, King Street , East Ruimveldt and Wellington Street.
The reason for the delay in the emptying of these skip bins was a mechanical problem with a tractor/trailer. However, during the course of the day the part was sourced and it was repaired and all of the bins were cleared.
The Council took the initiative to place these bins in particular areas to address the problem of littering of parapets, drains and other thoroughfares in the City.
Director of Solid Waste Management, Walter Narine said that many of the businesses do not have the requisite refuse receptacle. Hence, placement of the skip bins at specific locations is a direct response to this particular issue.
Once again, the Council apologises to the citizens for the inconvenience caused and wants to reassure residents that the necessary steps have been taken to prevent a recurrence.
