The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) and the New Campbellville Secondary School received cheques worth $1M each yesterday from the National Sports Commission (NSC) through Director of Sport, Christopher Jones.
The funding received by the federation will be used to offset expenses for its officials and athlete to attend the World Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sweden, while the school will utilize its sum to send athletes and officials to the annual Penn Relays.
Sweden’s event is billed for June 3-15 and the local contingent includes, Carlos Petterson-Griffith (athlete), Nadina Taharally (Vice President of the Federation) and Kathleen Paul (Physiotherapist).
The Penn Relays are scheduled for April 25-27 and, according to long serving coach, Christopher Gaskin, the contingent of 17 (eight males and nine females) is scheduled to depart on April 21 and return nine days later.
