The search continues for 79-year-old Joyce Davis, the United States (US) citizen who vanished from her Almanac Creek, Essequibo River home about a month ago, Divisional Commander Kevin Adonis yesterday said.
Contacted for an update on the matter, Adonis yesterday told this newspaper that the police have engaged in daily searches for Davis since her disappearance.
To date, Adonis said, there has been no trace of Davis.
Davis, who took up residence in Region Seven about two decades ago, was reported missing last month by residents of the area.
Davis has been living alone for several years following the death of her husband, who was also a US citizen.
The couple moved to Guyana almost two decades ago. The Region Seven Regional Democratic Council, in a Facebook post two weeks ago, had said that Davis contacted a boat captain and related to him that she had some work to be done at her home.
She requested that he bring along two workers. However, upon arrival, the men noticed the house was abandoned, the post had added. The police were subsequently alerted.
According to the post, a team of volunteers from Bartica and Karrau Village, including Regional Chairman Gordon Bradford, the Bartica police, Guyana People’s Militia and Karrau Creek Community Policing Group, launched an hours-long search along the river’s banks and within the surroundings of Davis’ residence two Thursday’s ago but came up empty handed.
Davis, this newspaper learnt, sailed the world for 16 years before settling down at Almanac Creek, Essequibo with her husband in 2006.
