I refer to the Belair Promenade, Belair Village where there is a blockage, existing in the southern earthen drain, running east to west and covering a distance of approximately 300 metres.
Editor, from all indications construction of concrete bridges recently, without excavation of the top soil, can be the primary reason for stagnation of the water.
As a consequence, a health hazard is in the making since in most yards all the internal drains are flooded to the extent that at specifics areas in the yards which are low there is an unsafe backflow of water.
That parents with school children and the elderly have to be exposed to these unhygienic conditions, leaves much to be desired of the inner workings of the Mayor & City Councillors, Engineers & Sanitization Departments. By the way, is this specific area subject to a Councillor’s supervision? If so, then the individual at the earliest given opportunity should pay a visit, and observe the ongoing discomfort the residents have to endure. After all, rates and taxes are being paid by the residents, all of whom deserve a better service from the M & C.C.
The street can be accessed from Pike Street, Campbellville, proceeding east, to the northern half of Delhi Street, at the first corner.
Finally, it is my sincere desire that the youthful Mayor, also pays a visit and has a first-hand observation of the proceedings, which if not addressed promptly can lead to the outbreak of a water-borne disease!
