Bantamweight standout, Keevin Allicock has reached the quarterfinal round of the 2019 AMBC Pan Am Games Qualifiers currently underway in Nicaragua after defeating his first two opponents via unanimous decision.
Allicock first tasted victory on Thursday by out boxing Trinidadian Anthony Joseph. He then followed it up with another win on Saturday night versus Otoniel Ortiz of the United States Virgin Islands.
With a semi final berth at stake, Allicock will once again step in the ring today to face Alexy De La Cruz of the Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile, Allicock’s countrymen, Colin Lewis and Desmond Amsterdam were not as fortunate inside the ropes.
Fighting in their respective weight divisions, light welterweight and light heavyweight, Lewis and Amsterdam lost their opening bouts by decisions versus Miguel Ferrin of Ecuador and Hector Aguirre of Mexico. Guyana’s hopes of a boxer qualifying for the Pan Am Games now solely rests on the shoulders of Allicock.
