President of the St. Lucia Boxing Association, David “Shakes” Christopher has condemned the disqualification/walkover decision against Guyanese Keevin Allicock which has robbed the fighter of the opportunity of qualifying for the upcoming Pan Am Games and is calling for the official to be debarred from future games.

A four-wicket haul from Mathew Nandu followed up by a half century from Brandon Jaikaran ensured Demerara their second consecutive win as they defeated Essequibo by three wickets in the Guyana Cricket Board Under-17 Inter-County tournament at Georgetown Cricket Club ground yesterday.

Rampersaud’s all-round versatility too much for U15s 

All-rounder Jonathan Rampersaud yesterday displayed his usefulness with both bat and ball to lead Berbice past the national Select U15 side by 149 runs in second round action of the Rubis Bel Air Under-17 Inter County tournament at the Everest Cricket Club (ECC) ground.  National under-15 player Rampersaud, recorded an unbeaten knock of 41 and later returned with the ball to nab 4-17 to rout his junior counterparts.  Berbice, hammered in their opening encounter against Demerara, batted first and posted 254-7 from their allotted 50 overs.

NEW YORK,  (Reuters) – A measles outbreak in Brooklyn, primarily among Orthodox Jewish children, prompted New York City yesterday to declare a public health emergency, requiring unvaccinated people in the affected areas to get the vaccine or face fines The city’s largest outbreak since 1991 of the once virtually eradicated disease has mainly been confined to the Orthodox Jewish community in the borough’s Williamsburg neighborhood, with 285 cases confirmed since October, Mayor Bill de Blasio said at a news conference.

Hamilton Green Inter-Ward football resumes Sunday

The annual Hamilton Green Inter-Ward 9-A-side Football Championship will resumes with the round of 16 stage on Sunday from 15:00hrs at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.  The event which will be played over the duration of three days, will be contested utilizing an elimination format.  Four substitutions are permitted in this format, with each game running for the duration of 30 minutes via two halves of 15 minutes.
