A rank from the city police outpost was yesterday granted bail, after he was accused of discharging a loaded firearm at a minibus driver during an argument.

Mark Murray, 24, denied the charge, which was read by Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The charge alleges that on September 26, 2018, at Water Street, Georgetown, Murray discharged a loaded firearm at Paul John, with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause actual body harm.

Roger Yearwood, Murray’s attorney, told the court that Murray discharged the weapon, which is the property of the Guyana Police Force, during the course of his duty. He also said that there was no malicious intent by the accused.

With no objections by Prosecutor Seon Blackman, Murray, who is still attached to the outpost, was granted bail in the sum of $75,000 and the matter was adjourned until April 24, 2019.

According to reports, Murray shot John, a mini-bus driver, in the leg, during an altercation about parking spots, which resulted in John being hospitalised for a couple of days.
