Fruta Conquerors ended their CONCACAF Caribbean Club Shield on a disappointing note, losing 4-0 to Santiago de Cuba on Tuesday at the Dr. Antonio Maduro Stadium, Curacao.
Needing a victory to keep their hopes alive of a berth to the knockout round, the Guyanese suffered a terrible setback, as the Cubans secured a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime interval.
Ronaldo Abreu grabbed his first of two goals in the 39th minute, before Jorge Villalon recorded the second three minutes onward. Upon the resumption, the score grew to 3-0, as Abreu secured his brace in the 49th minute.
The score was then completed in the 70th minute compliments of an Eddy Ibanez conversion in the 70th minute. With the loss, their second of the campaign, Fruta Conquerors end the group round on a point and in the cellar position. The Guyanese unit is expected to return on local shores shortly.
