The Guyana Police Force is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a Rosignol, West Bank Berbice labourer who fell from the back of a canter on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a police press release, 43-year-old Chetram Ramoutar, of 258 Railway Line, was at the back of an enclosed canter truck around 4:30 pm while the truck was proceeding east along the public road.
The police said that enquiries disclosed that while the truck, GKK 2071, was travelling along the road, the left half of its back door which was not properly secured flew open which resulted in Ramoutar falling out and onto the road where he sustained various injuries.
He was rushed to the Fort Wellington Hospital in an unconscious state and was treated before he was transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital; where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Ramoutar’s body is currently at the hospital’s mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination and the driver, who passed a Breathalyzer test, is assisting with the investigation.
