The Guyana Under 15 cricket team departed yesterday morning for Antigua where they will be participating in the Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Tournament set to get underway from tomorrow.
Level Three Coach Julian Moore has been appointed as the head coach while Latchman Yadram will serve as Manager and all-rounder, Zachary Jodah, as captain. Jodah will be assisted by West Indies Under 16 batsman, Mavindra Dindyal, who will serve as his deputy.
The team also comprises Rampertab Ramnauth, Anthony Khan, Jaden Campbell, Tameshwar Mahadeo, Alvin Mohabir, Ravishwar Sobhai, Jonathan Van Lange, Matthew Pottaya, Isia Thorne, Omari Lalbachan, Krsna Singh and Thaddeus Lovell.
Anil Singh from the East Coast Cricket Committee wished the team well in their endeavours and noted that they have shown their worth in the recently concluded Inter-County U17 tournament where they defeated Essequibo and fell two runs short of beating eventual champions, Demerara.
Singh, who also presented Lalbachan – the captain of the East Coast U15 – with a pair of spikes, wished him well and stressed the importance of discipline.
The players have given a good account of themselves with Dindyal scoring the only century of the U17 tourney and following up with a 67, while Ramnauth has shown consistency throughout the tournament, finishing on a high with a compact 76. Campbell and Khan are also notable batsmen with big reputations.
The team is packed with all-rounders with the captain being a solid middle order batsman and capable left arm spinner while Lalbachan and Lovell are seamers with good batting potential.
Mohabir has also shown consistency with both bat and ball and will likely partner with fellow off-spinner, Singh, in crucial spells. Pottaya has spun webs around the local batsmen and is also expected to carry that form into the regional tournament.
