(Trinidad Express) A retiree has been placed on a ban from driving for the rest of his life after he was found driving drunk for a third time.
Lenny Morgan, 62, of Debe, was also fined $14,000 when he appeared before San Fernando Traffic Court Magistrate Anslem Leander.
Police prosecutor Sgt Ishmael told the court that, on January 28, Constable La Borde was on a road traffic exercise duty along the Solomon Hochoy Highway.
He stopped a vehicle being driven by Morgan. The court heard that while interviewing Morgan, La Borde smelt alcohol on his breath. Morgan’s speech was also slurred and his eyes were red.
Morgan admitted to the officer: “I drink a few beers.”
Breath tests were done and he had a reading of 101 microgrammes. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
The court was informed that Morgan had two previous matters for driving while under the influence of alcohol. These occurred in June 2014 and November 2012.
Leander fined Morgan $14,000. He has to pay the money in four months or face three years in prison.
Leander also imposed the permanent driving disqualification on Morgan.
