The road to the Cayman Islands has been set for the 21 athletes who will carry the Golden Arrowhead at the 2019 CARIFTA Games over the Easter holiday weekend.
After the team was announced a few weeks ago following the final trials at the National Track and Field Centre, the final meeting will be held today at the National Resource Centre from 10:00hrs where the management team will outline the rules and regulations for the sojourn to the athletes and their parents.
Aubrey Hutson, President of the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) said yesterday that “everything is on stream for a successful trip.”
According to Hutson, he hopes that today’s meeting will resonate with everyone who should be on the same page as the biggest junior Track and Field meet in the Caribbean approaches.
Punctuality, decorum and anti-doping will be some of the talking points during the meeting.
Now that the team has been selected, Hutson said the management team, headed by Amanda Hermonstine, has ensured that all of the athletes’ paperwork is completed and their passports and visas are up to date. Julian Edmonds and Raymond Daw are the coaches selected to travel with the contingent while Alisha Fortune was named as the Physiotherapist.
Guyana’s contingent is scheduled to depart on Wednesday.
The Cayman Islands is set to host the games for the third time from April 20th to 22nd at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex
This year’s Games will see the Cayman Islands hosting 26 countries and 500 athletes. There will also be 400 volunteers and about 150 local and international officials. It is the premier track and field junior competition in the region.
The CaymanCARIFTA2019 will mark the 48th running of the CARIFTA Games. Mr.
