The police in ‘G’ Division are in pursuit of a man suspected to have been involved in the death of businesswoman Nazarene Haniff, who was found dead at her home last Friday.
Divisional Commander Khali Pareshram yesterday told Sunday Stabroek that the 37-year-old man remained on the lam up to yesterday afternoon.
A reliable source told this newspaper that the suspect reportedly owed Haniff a quantity of cash.
Haniff, 52, called “Aunty Molly,” who owned and operated a shop, was discovered dead in her 347 Red Village Extension Scheme, Onderneeming, Essequibo home around 1.15 pm.
There were visible injuries to her face and body. Haniff’s house was also ransacked. The police said she was suspected to have been the victim of a robbery.
It is also suspected that Haniff was sexually assaulted. However, the police are awaiting an autopsy to confirm this. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on her remains sometime this week.
