Michael Anthony produced a gem yesterday, racing to victory in the feature 35-lap event of the 15th Universal Auto and General Supplies multi race programme.
Staged at the National Park in perfect conditions for racing, Anthony denied Andre Green from completing back-to-back wins, bettering Green, in a thrilling two-man finish to take the top honors of the race.
Anthony, who also copped half of the eight sprint prizes on the circuit, won the event after stopping the clock in one hour, 17 minutes and two seconds of intense racing.
Paul DeNobrega, one of the marked men throughout the event by the 23-man peloton, out sprinted the remnants of the second pack to amazingly finish third.
Junior Niles finished fourth while Christopher Griffith and Marcus Keiler filled out the top six rewarding positions.
With the peloton locked in on Romello Crawford who is enjoying sublime early season form, Anthony and Green staged a successful getaway with 12 laps to go.
The pair rode unchallenged and wheel-to-wheel until the final 150m. Green attacked first but Anthony had the fresher legs and also used his superior speed to blow by the Trojan PSL biker en route to his second victory of his 2019 campaign.
Other winners yesterday included: Nehum Rigby (BMX 6-9 and 9-12 years), Sherwin Sampson (BMX 12-14 and Juveniles), Kwame Ridley (veteran U-50) and Ian Jackson (veteran O-50).
Anthony will look to continue his winning ways today when cycling action switches to the open roads of West Demerara. This morning from 08:30hrs, the cyclists will race from Schoonord, proceed to Bushy Park and return to the point of origin and finish in the annual PowerAde road race. Berbician, Crawford, DeNobrega and Green will also be gunning for a top podium spot.
