First-class player Trevon Griffith nabbed a career-best match haul of 15-87 while recording twin half-centuries to spur defending champions – the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) – to a commanding outright eight-wicket win over host, the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), GISE, Star Party Rental, Trophy Stall first-division, two-day competition, yesterday.
The day’s proceedings saw DCC resuming the second morning on 177-8; they only added eight runs to their overnight total before being dismissed for 185, surrendering first innings points and gifting GCC a 43-run first innings lead.
Griffith (58) top-scored while Steven Sankar (37) made a useful lower order contribution as Winston Forrester grabbed 3-29 to end as his side’s most successful bowler.
The off-spinner received support from left-arm spinners Stepon Wilson (2-10) and Devon Lord (2-42) along with seamer Ronaldo Ali Mohammed (2-35).
GCC in their second innings, was routed for 96 in 39.3 overs with Griffith, who bewildered the host with figures of 8-53 in their first innings, returning to once again spearhead the rout by snaring 7-32 to complete an excellent showing with the ball with a match haul of 15-87. GCC had an overall lead of 138 runs.
DCC, needing 139 to complete the outright win, coasted to 143-2 with Griffith lacing eight fours and two maximums in an assertive knock of 67 – his second half-century of the match – before being dismissed.
Raymond Perez, who ended the game by easing Devon Lord over extra cover for six, carved out a purposeful unbeaten knock of 52 decorated with five fours and two sixes to see DCC over the line.

In the other first division encounter at the weekend, Everest completed a five-wicket win over host – the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) – on the back of a robust all-round effort from West Indies youth player Bhaskar Yadram, who captured his maiden 10-wicket haul. He also struck a match-winning second innings half-century.
Everest resumed the day on 147-7 with Tagenarine Chanderpaul returning to the crease on 41, however, they were dismissed for 169, surrendering first innings points while handing the host a slim nine-run lead.
Chanderpaul (50) got to his half-century while seamer Kellon Carmichael ended as the pick of the bowlers for MSC with figures of 4-37 while off-spinner Steven Jacobs collected 4-42.
MSC with a lead of nine runs, were bundled out for 135 in their second innings reply. Clarence Baird (44), Mervin Permual (39) and Nkosie Barker (29) were the main contributors while Yadram took 3-43 to complete his ten-wicket haul to keep his side in the hunt.
Richie Looknauth (3-25) and Amir Khan (2-43) were also among the wickets for Everest who rocketed to 147-5 on the back of a brisk innings of 52 from Yadram, inclusive of three fours and the same amount of sixes.
Khan (30) and Joseph Perry (27) were not out at the end to complete the win while Jacobs ended with 3-60 for the host.
