Rose Hall Town Bakewell (RHT) stormed into the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/ Shimron Hetmyer Intermediate tournament after beating Number 72 All Stars by 86 runs at Port Mourant, Berbice yesterday.
RHT batted first and posted 189-8 from their allotted overs. They then dismissed All Stars for 103 in 31 overs.
RHT’s batting centered around Keith Simpson who top scored with an even half century with four fours and one six.
Simpson partnered with Johnathan Rampersaud (21) to put on 64 for the sixth wicket.
The pair built on the 52-run, third-wicket partnership between Junior Sinclair (25) and Surendra Kissonlall (31) but those apart, only Kevlon Anderson (10) reached double figures.
Taleshwar Bauchan and Kameshwar Chatterpaul were the primary wicket takers with two wickets each.
The chase highlighted the vast difference between the two sides with Anderson ripping through the batting order to claim 4-24.
The seamer uprooted the stumps of Trishan Ramdass (22) and Anand Singh (06) while both Chatterpaul and Samadatt Singh edged to the wicketkeeper.
Left-arm seamer, Erva Giddings got RHT off to a good start by drawing Gavin Chatterpaul into a drive that resulted in a top edge to Rampersaud at mid-on, while off-spinner, Junior Sinclair snapped up two quick wickets as Mahendra Bhoj edged him into the hands of Guyana female captain, Shemaine Campbelle at first slip.
Pameshwar Chatterpaul showed some resistance with a composed 36 batting at number seven. He struck four fours including a powerful drive through the covers off of Anderson.
Simpson returned with his left-arm spin to bowl both Pameshwar Chatterpaul and Gobin to cap off a fine all-round display.
Pradeep Gobin also resisted with two aggressive boundaries consecutively hit off of skipper, Shawn Peirera, the first of which was a no ball for height and slapped through point and the second, carved down the ground.
However, the leg-spinner struck back with his googly, drawing Gajraj Bhoj to push a low full toss back into his hands and see his team into the final to face either Courtland or Albion.
At the end of the match, the successful captain explained that Simpson was integral to the team’s success but indicated that the other batsmen will need to step up if they are to take the trophy.
According to Berbice Cricket Board president, Hilbert Foster, the final will be played once the sponsor, Hetmyer returns home.
