The Region 10 Regional Democratic Council (RDC), has fulfilled a commitment made to the students of the Cyril Potter College of Education’s Linden Centre, to supply fans to the institution, the region has reported.
The request for the fans had been made during a visit to the school by Regional Chairman, Renis Morian, who observed that the students were working in unbearable conditions, as the fans present were inadequate for the facility.
“I must confess that as soon as I stepped into these classrooms I am wondering how you students can learn in these conditions as it is very hot in here and this is no environment for proper learning,” Morian had commented on that occasion.
His promise to deliver fans, the release noted, was a quick-fix approach, as the Chairman acknowledged that providing air conditioning systems was both outside of the region’s budget, as well as a task that, logistically, would take more time.
He, however, pointed out that he was willing to assist the students, although the responsibility for making such provisions falls under the ambit of the Education Ministry.
“As you may all know…CPCE is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education and as such, I do not have any funds in my budget which would allow me to assist you folks but let me say that at the end of the day, you are teacher[s] from Region Ten who, hopefully, will be returning to Region Ten and that is a significant benefit to our region. Our students will be benefiting from the professional training and knowledge that you gained,” Morian stated.
“Therefore I am happy to be assisting you as I firmly believe that your learning environment certainly needs enhancement but for now, I am confident that these fans will alleviate the unduly hot environment that you are in,” he added.
The Chairman said that while he could not commit to the installation of the ACs, he is hopeful that the ministry and/or the private sector can step forward and help. He did, however, assure students that they can contact him or the RDC on any matters of importance, as he is “pleased to be empowering and promoting the skills and abilities of residents within his Region”.
Morian also promised Head of Centre, Stephanie St. Clair, that he would find ways to assist with some of her requests for the institution.
St. Clair expressed appreciation to Morian, thanking him for the visit and for following through on his commitment. While grateful for the donation, however, she stated that they are still hopeful that they will receive assistance to cope with the “unbearable” levels of heat the classrooms would usually rise to.
