The Queen’s College Ground, previously overrun by bushes and weeds, has been returned to its former pristine state, following two years of rehabilitative works.
The ground was officially re-launched last Tuesday, in a ceremony which preceded an inaugural cricket match to mark the milestone.
In April, 2017, a group of Queen’s College alumni had banded together and committed to the field’s maintenance, after a report in this newspaper on the state of the ground, which had been overgrown with grass and littered with builder’s waste.
Dr. Terrence Blackman, who spearheaded the initiative, had told Stabroek News then that the group would not stop until the field was returned to its former glory, and stated that they “will not be satisfied” until students are able to use the ground in the same way that it was utilised by their predecessors.
