MUMBAI, India, CMC – Alzarri Joseph’s Indian Premier League dream ended abruptly last weekend when he picked up a season-ending injury in Mumbai Indians’ four-wicket defeat to Rajasthan Royals.
The 22-year-old dislocated his bowling shoulder while trying to prevent a boundary during the Rajasthan innings, and is not expected to recover in time for the rest of Mumbai’s campaign.
Joseph was a late replacement for New Zealand fast bowler Adam Milne who was also ruled out of the tournament through injury.
The West Indies fast bowler subsequently made a sensational debut when he grabbed six for 12 against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6, recording the best-ever figures in the history of the tournament.
He starred with the bat in the next game, hitting the winning runs off the last ball of the contest as Mumbai beat Kings XI Punjab in a thriller at the Wankhede.
However, Joseph had a game to forget against Royals, sending down three overs for a whopping 53 runs before picking up the injury.
Mumbai are not expected to replace Joseph.
