A Baramita man who allegedly chopped four persons within a period of 11 days was yesterday remanded to prison after he was read four attempted murder charges.
Eddie Williams, 21, stood before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, who read the charges to him in Georgetown.
It was alleged that he committed two of the attacks on April 1st, at Baramita, North West District, where he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Rawle Campbell and Salicia Jacob, with intent to commit murder.
He is charged with committing another attack on April 5th, when he wounded Virgil Thomas and on April 11th, when he wounded Devon Scott.
The court heard that in the case of Thomas, Williams asked him for bamboo paper but the complainant indicated that he did not have any. Williams, it is alleged, then whipped out a cutlass and chopped the complainant in his face before making good his escape through the bushes. Some days later, he was arrested in the community.
Williams was not required to plead to the indictable charges.
Police Prosecutor Shellon Daniels objected to the accused being granted bail. She noted that the injuries sustained by the complainants are life threatening and at the very least could cause permanent disfigurement.
Daniels noted that Williams is known to all the complainants.
Having heard from the prosecutor, the magistrate remanded the accused to prison and adjourned the matter until May 7th, when it is expected to be called at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
