Seventeen more touts were arrested and charged last week as the Guyana Police Force continues their “soliciting of passengers” campaign.
According to a press release, on Wednesday, the exercise was conducted by Sergeant 18039 Michael Ramdas along with ranks from the Traffic Headquarters. The exercise was conducted at the routes 31, 32, 40, 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 and 72 mini-bus parks where 17 touts were arrested and charged. The statement added that the department also continues to address the challenges that the commuters are currently facing at the various bus parks and quoted Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Linden Isles saying, “this exercise is aimed to rid the parks of all touts and as such the public cooperation is critical.”
The release also added that the campaign will continue indefinitely until the desired results are achieved. So far over 100 touts in total have been arrested and charged.
