Linden Technical Institute [LTI] and New Silvercity secured contrasting wins when the Linden Town Week Secondary Schools Basketball Championships continued on Monday at the Mackenzie High School court.
LTI displayed their championship credentials, overcoming a determined Linden Foundation Secondary 33-28. Steven Duncan top scored for the victors in the hard-fought contest, as he tallied an impressive 18 points.
On the other side, Emmanuel La Rose recorded more than half his side’s total with 15 points. The first half highlighted the competitive nature of the clash as Linden Foundation took a marginal 15-14 lead.
However, LTI responded in the second half, tallying 19 points while restricting their foe to 13 points to secure the result. Meanwhile, New Silver City dismantled Wisburg 31-14.
Delroy Bell netted 18 points for the victors as neither side featured any other player that recorded double digit points. It was a dominant performance from New Silvercity, who led from start to finish. The first period ended 17-9, effectively ending the contest.
The second period mirrored the first, with New Silvercity recording 14 points, while reducing their opponent to a paltry five points.
The tournament continues on Friday at the same venue with another doubleheader.
In the opening match, Wisburg will oppose Christianburg/Wismar at 14:30hrs, while the second matchup will pit LTI against Mackenzie High School from 16:00hrs.
