A mason was remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with snatching a woman’s phone as she was heading to her car from a city nightclub.
Tyron McCloud, 19, denied the charge, which was read by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in a Georgetown court.
The charge alleges that on April 18th, at Main Street, Georgetown, McCloud stole a Samsung cellphone, valued $170,000, from the person of Charmalaine English.
According to Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question, as English was proceeding to her car from the Palm Court nightclub, McCloud, who was standing in the vicinity of the car, grabbed her phone, which she had in her hand, as she passed him.
As McCloud began running away, English raised an alarm and a police officer, who was nearby, caught and arrested the youth. McCloud was searched and the phone was found in his pocket. English positively identified McCloud as the person who snatched her phone, the court also heard.
Mansfield objected to bail, citing the prevalence of the offence. McCloud was subsequently remanded and the matter was adjourned until April 26th.
