Four projects submitted to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for Environmental Authorisation, and which the entity mistakenly announced did not require Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), are currently being screened for their possible impacts on the environment.
This was indicated by the EPA in a public notice published in the Sunday Stabroek, in which it stated that it was issuing a retraction of four applications “inadvertentl y” listed under the 30 days Public Notice for projects that do not require EIAs, initially published in the Sunday, March 31, 2019 editions of the Stabroek News and Guyana Chronicle newspapers.
The applications included those which were submitted by Jason Comacho of Environmental Waste Management Services Guyana Inc.; Kaizen Environmental Services Inc.; S. Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction Service; and Allan Fernandes, Neal St Aubyn and Jeremy Fernandes of John Fernandes Ltd.
The aforementioned applications are related to the construction of a storage and maintenance facility at Plantation Friendship, East Bank Demerara; the construction of a hazardous waste treatment facility at Peter’s Hall, East Bank Demerara; the construction of a landfill site at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara; and the setup of support operations for the drilling of oil waste at Water Street, Georgetown, respectively.
It was noted that upon completion of the screening, the public will be informed of the decision made by the agency.
“The Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused. The Agency’s decision on the prior sixteen (16) projects stated in the above mentioned notice remains valid,” EPA stated.
