A Corentyne man is now a patient under guard at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and three other persons are in police custody, after a shooting incident on the Corentyne.
Sunday Stabroek was told that the incident transpired on Thursday evening at Nigg Village, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, it was the result of a brawl at a popular hangout spot.
It was related that several persons were drinking at the night spot when an argument erupted between three men and the owner of the establishment.
Sunday Stabroek was told that the men allegedly attempted to interfere with a waitress at the business.
However, during the argument, which became physical, the owner of the business sustained a blow to his head with a beer bottle. He then reportedly left the shop and returned with an unlicensed firearm, following which a shootout began between him and the three men, who were in their vehicle.
According to eyewitnesses, the man who was sitting in the front seat of the car and who was also armed with an unlicensed firearm, sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the shooting.
This publication was told that 10 spent shells along with two warheads were recovered from the Toyota 192 vehicle bearing licence plate number PKK 1260, which has since been impounded at the Albion Police Station.
An investigation is ongoing.
