One week after more than $67 million worth of contracts were awarded by the Region Four administration, nine others were awarded, amounting to nearly $75 million, for civil works.
The ceremony for the signing of the contracts was held last Thursday at the Regional Democratic Council boardroom at Triumph, East Coast Demerara and was witnessed by the Regional Vice-Chairman Earl Lambert, contractors and staff of the regional office. Regional Executive Officer Pauline Lucas, before signing the contracts, congratulated the contractors and thanked them for bidding. She said that without the partnership of the contractors, the projects will not be executed and encouraged them, along with those who were unsuccessful, to continue bidding. Lucas then advised them to complete their work in a timely manner, while cautioning that she expects nothing but quality work to the specifications of the contracts.
Lucas disclosed that at least 30 projects will make up this year’s capital and civil works, which are projected to total $508 million, and by the end of May, the remaining contracts for this year’s civil works will be issued to the successful contractors. Lambert, who is also the Chairman of the civil works committee, said that the region will be visiting and inspecting the projects regularly and will be expecting nothing but quality work. “I think when we are given quality works, it means that you would have delivered on your service and you would have qualified yourself for more work from the region,” he advised the contractors.
In addition to the nine contractors who signed contracts yesterday, eight contractors were awarded with almost $68 million worth of contracts in the previous week.
