An 18-year-old was stabbed to death while his parents were injured after they were attacked on Friday morning at Timehri, on the East Bank of Demerara.
David Toney, of Alliance Road, Timehri, sustained a single stab wound to his abdomen during the fatal row at the Timehri Docks, which surrounded payment for the loading of cabbage onto a truck.
His parents, Mark Toney, 48 and Judith Hosea, 39, both of Timehri Hill Top, are currently patients at the Diamond Hospital. Mark, who is said to be in critical condition, was stabbed to the back, chest and arm, while Hosea, who is listed as stable, was stabbed once to one of her arms.
The suspect, a 25-year-old labourer of Swan Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway was subsequently arrested. He is said to be assisting the police with their investigation. The altercation occurred at about 4 am. A police source told Sunday Stabroek that based on statements given to investigators, David and his parents were involved in an argument with the suspect and a group of men over payment owed for loading cabbage onto a truck.
As a result, a scuffled ensued between the suspect, Mark and David.
During the scuffle, the suspect reportedly drew a knife from his waist and stabbed both David and Mark. Judith was reported to have also been stabbed when she attempted to intervene.
The suspect and his cohorts subsequently fled the scene, after which David and Judith went to the Timehri Police Station to report the matter. It was while walking to the police station that David collapsed and died.
