Forty youth entrepreneurs will be honoured this Thursday at Brand YOUth’s inaugural forty under forty entrepreneurial awards, being held under the theme ‘Building Bridges, Passing Batons’.
The event, scheduled for 6pm to 8pm at the National Cultural Centre, is expected to see the attendance of Minister of State Joseph Harmon, Minister of Public Telecommunications Catherine Hughes, Minister of Public Affairs Dawn Hastings-Williams, former Opposition Member of Parliament Gail Teixeira, the Canadian High Commissioner Lilian Chatterjee, among others.
Brand YOUth, a movement said to be “rooted in excellence, unity, community and self-empowerment,” is a Conversations with Selwyn (CWS) initiative. The release said that Brand YOUth evolved out of a vision to see an end to poverty in Guyana, eliminate hunger, realise gender equality, and see Guyana rise to its full potential to become the bread-basket and ‘Silicon Valley’ of the region.
It was inspired by Collins’ platform as a broadcaster, which he used to invite youths to share their stories. That initiative blossomed into a five-part series in 2016 titled, Guyanese Youth in Business, and a seven-part series produced in late 2017, titled Guyanese Youth in Review.
The release noted that most of the 40 being honoured this Thursday would have appeared on the CWS platform.
It was also indicated that on Saturday, a signing ceremony to honour the memory of late businesswoman, Mrs Allison Butters-Grant, will be held at the University of Guyana, from 10 am to 11:30 am.
