From May 2nd, the Charlestown Post Office will be closed to the general public until further notice, according to an advertisement in the Sunday Chronicle, which advised that persons will have to use the main post office on Robb Street.
Contacted on the closure of the post office, located at the corners of Drysdale and Lombard streets, Post Mistress General Karen Brown last evening told this publication that the public will be updated on any new developments. Questioned whether it is a permanent closure, she maintained her initial response.
However, Stabroek News was told that the post office will be closed for rehabilitation.
“We have been busy here and this post office provides service to a lot of people who are not able to go into Georgetown. We are not closing permanently, it is just being closed for rehabilitation because of the condition it is in,” a source said.
