A Meten-Meer-Zorg Reserve, West Coast Demerara tractor operator died yesterday morning after the tractor he was operating toppled as he was returning from the backdam.
Police yesterday said that the incident, which claimed the life of Sudesh (only name given), 38, occurred at about 7 am on the De Kindren Side Line Dam, West Coast Demerara.
Investigations have revealed that the tractor operator, who is employed with Lakeram Persaud, a sawmill operator and contractor with GuySuCo, left home to plow a section of the farmlands located approximately 20 miles away from the public road.
As he was returning, police said, the man lost control of the tractor, which carried registration number 29920. As a result, the tractor toppled into the eastern trench and this caused the driver to be pinned down.
A man who was passing observed the accident and alerted police and other authorities. Sudesh’s body was recovered from the trench and was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.
His body is currently at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post mortem examination.
