Alika Persaud secured Guyana’s first gold medal at the ongoing Carifta Swimming Championship Saturday evening at the Barbados Aquatic Centre, Wildey, Barbados, grabbing the Girls 11-12 100 LC Metre Butterfly event.
The Guyanese clocked a time of 1:08.52s ahead of Jamaican Giani Francis (1:10.17s) and Harper Barrowman (1:10.53s) The win for the Guyanese Olympic hopeful qualifies her for the Competition Between the Caribbean and Central America (CCCAN) swim meet later this year in Barbados.
