The street football phenomenon known as the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Championship will resume tonight with the commencement of the Linden Zone at the Mackenzie Market Tarmac.
In the opening match, Barsenal will oppose Retrieve Unknown from 19:30hrs with Amazings battling Capital Storm from 20:00hrs.
The third fixture at 20:30hrs will pit Coomacka-A against Haynes Hitters while former winners Dave & Celina’s engage Presidential from 21:00hrs.
In the final two matches, NK Ballers face-off with Assassa Ballers at 21:30hrs, while Quiet Storm match skills with former two time winner Amelia’s Ward Russians from 22:00hrs.
The tournament will be contested in an initial round-robin format featuring four groups of four teams. Upon the conclusion of the group stage, the top two finishers will advance to the knockout round.
Group-A comprises Assassa Ballers, Amazings, NK Ballers and Capital Storm, with group-B featuring Amelia’s Ward Russians, Quiet Storm, Coomacka-B and Haynes Hitters.
On the other hand, group-C consists of Silver Bullets, High Rollers, Retrieve Unknown and Barsenal, whilst Swag Entertainment, Dave & Celina’s All-Stars, Presidential and Wisroc make up group-D.
The other playing dates are May 1st, 3rd, 10th, 17th, with the grand finale slated for 24th.
According to an official release from the tournament coordinators, “All systems are in place for a fantastic opening night and a fantastic tournament in general. The playoffs was highly supported which is an indication of teams wanting to be a part of the tournament. A very competitive tournament is once again expected as the teams vie for the coveted title, while the fans are surely going to be thrilled by the action on display. All that is left is for the teams to compete.”
