Residents living in the village of Lima in Region 2 benefited recently from road works, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI).
Regional Engineer within the Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Philip Amos said: “We’ve broken up the existing road, we’ve levelled it, we’ve added crusher run and compacted it… We have sealed it and then put sand on the top. Afterwards, we blow away the sand, then we can [add] asphalt [to the road].”
The engineer also highlighted areas that will be targeted for upgrades along the Essequibo Coast as part of the projects emanating from the Ministry of Public Infrastructure’s 2019 budget. These areas include Henrietta, Richmond, Anna Regina, Sparta, Suddie and Golden Fleece.
Amos said that the condition of the roads, the population in the community, and the presence or absence of schools in the vicinity were the determining factors in which of the roads needed to be a priority for upgrades.
