Convicted for the rape of a nine-year-old girl, Gingish Khan, 51, now awaits his sentence pending the presentation of a probation report on him and a victim impact statement.
Following just over an hour of deliberations yesterday afternoon, a 12-member jury unanimously convicted Khan on charges of carnally knowing a girl under the age of 15.
Additionally, he was found guilty on three counts of indecently assaulting the child.
The offences all occurred in August of 2008.
Following the announcement of the verdicts, trial judge Brassington Reynolds said that given the years which have elapsed since commission of the offences, the court wants to hear a victim impact statement as well as a probation report on the convict, before passing sentence.
In the circumstances, the matter has been adjourned until May 14th.
Having now been convicted, Khan, who was previously on bail, was remanded to prison to await sentencing.
Khan, who lived in the same neighbourhood as the child, was said to have fondled her before eventually raping her.
Presenting the state’s case against the convict were prosecutors Seeta Bishundial and Lisa Cave.
Khan, meanwhile, was represented by defence attorney Ravindra Mohabir.
The trial proceedings were held in-camera at the Sexual Offences Court of the High Court in Georgetown.
