A shutdown of the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) resulted in lengthy power outages around the country yesterday, the Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) said.
Yesterday, large parts of Georgetown and other parts of the country experienced sporadic power outages throughout the day.
And according to GPL, through its Facebook page, the blackouts were caused by a shutdown of the DBIS. It stated that efforts were underway to restore power incrementally but had not provided an update on whether the system was fully functioning at press time last night.
However, as it relates to power interruptions on the East Coast from Mon Repos to Success, the power company said that a broken structure at Plaisance was responsible, and given the weather conditions, remedial works were delayed.
As a result, power was expected to be restored by 11pm.
