Gold is Money downed Sparta Boss to seal their final’s berth in the Stag Beer Easter Futsal Championships, winning via sudden death penalty kicks on Thursday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The West Ruimveldt unit prevailed 5-4 on sudden death penalty kicks in front of a large crowd, with veteran goalkeeper Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess recording the winning penalty conversion, after Courtney Britton flashed his effort over the crossbar.
Prior to the nerve wracking penalty shoot-out, the score line was locked 4-4 at the end of regulation time, in the process sending the matchup into the extra time realm.
The additional combined periods of 10 minutes failed to separate the teams, as the score line ended 5-5.
With the win, Gold is Money will now oppose Bent Street in the grand finale, after the latter recorded a dogged 7-4 win over North East La Penitence in the earlier semi-final encounter.
The finale will be staged on Tuesday at the same venue, with North East La Penitence and Sparta Boss facing off in the earlier third place playoff.
Winner of the event will pocket $700,000 and a trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finisher receiving $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
