Pele Alumni Corp. (PAC) on Thursday last brought the curtain down on their third annual youth development programme at the St Joseph’s auditorium.
The three-day initiative which was coordinated under the theme “All for one, one for all”, focused on equipping the young footballers, both boys and girls, with the necessary life skills and educational tools to better equip the youngsters for life after school.
Chairman of PAC, Dennis Carrington, who spoke to Stabroek Sports on Thursday at the conclusion of the event, explained the reasons behind the initiative.
“This is the third rendition of our children development programme and the focus is on lifestyles… preparing these kids for life after high school; whether it’s ethics or discipline. The things that they would need when they enter the world of work,” Carrington explained.
Meanwhile, the non-profit organization, which is registered in the US and birthed out of the need to foster a better relationship between sport and education in Guyana, also made a number of other strong gestures to match their talk.
Carrington, in that regard, pointed out that six laptops, backpacks containing hygiene and school items and three thousand dollars vouchers redeemable at Giftland were distributed.
The initiative was supported by Carnegie, Ministry of Education, Lions Club, and the Guyana Armature weight lifting association.
