DCC, Bel Air Rubis, GCC record opening-round wins

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Bel Air Rubis and the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) recorded opening round wins in the 2019 GCA/Toucan Under-15 100 overs tournament yesterday. 

DCC, who came up against host, the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO), earned a comfortable five-wicket win while Bel Air defeated the Transport Sports Club (TSC) also by five wickets at the Guyana National Industrial Corporation ground.

In another fixture, GCC hammered hosts Malteenoes Sports Club (MDC) by nine wickets.

Romeo Deonarain goes through the cover region with elegance. 

MYO at the start of the day won the toss and elected to take first strike and were dismissed for 141 in 36.2 overs. Five penalty runs were deducted.

 National Under-15 player Isaiah Thorne struck two fours and a maximum in a top score of 22 while Wavell Adams (3-35), Jaden Dowlin (2-17), Jeremiah Hohenkirk (2-2), and Koreem Caesar (2-34) did the work with the ball for the visitors who in response completed the successful run chase in 37.4 overs, reaching 138-5. 

Romeo Deonarain’s knock of 40 was instrumental in the win. He carved out five fours and received support from Premkumar Permaul (19) and skipper Shequan Walters who made an unbeaten 23.   Meanwhile, TSC batted first in their encounter against Bel Air and was dismissed for 98 inside 31 overs. Openers Ryan Latif (37) and Deandre Linton (23) shared in a 55-run opening stand and were the only batsmen to record double figures as Josh Alves (4-29), Nicholas Shiopersad (2-47) and Mohamed Juma (2-6) did the damage with the ball. 

 Bel Air in reply completed the win by reaching 99-5 in 24.5 overs on the back of an 80-run stand between Shiopersad (43) and national under – 15 player Omari Lallbachan (42) who both missed out on fifties. Reyaz Latif grabbed 2-18 for TSC. 

 Over at MSC, the host was bundled out for 36 by GCC with Joshua Sooklall nabbing 4-5 while Joash Charles (2-11) and Vishanauth Ram (2-9) supported to lead the rout. GCC, in reply, coasted to 37-1 to record their opening win.
