Off-spinner Jayden Dowlin and skipper Shaquan Walters were at the forefront of an exciting one-wicket win for host Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) over arch-rivals the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) in the latest round of the 2019 GCA/Toucan Under-15 100 overs tournament, yesterday.
Dowlin, son of former West Indies test player, Travis Dowlin, nabbed 4-13 while Walters composed an unbeaten innings of 40 which overshadowed a half-century from GCC’s Mavendra Dindyal.
GCC, after winning the toss and electing to bat, were dismissed for 134 in 32.3 overs with Dindyal who was prolific in the recently concluded CWI regional under – 15 championships, recording a knock of 67 while Joash Charles (25) chipped in at the back end.
Dowlin four-for along with useful spells from Romeo Deonarain (3-24), and Koreem Caesar (2-15) led DCC’s bowling effort.
The host in response were made to work for every run in an exciting successful run chase, reaching 135-9 to coast to their second win in as many days. Walters, who played a skipper’s knock, ended unbeaten on 40 to see his side over the line while Jaden Campbell (20) played a useful innings at the top of the order.
The hugely talented Dindyal returned to snare 3-28 with the ball while Charles (3-24) delivered a useful spell which kept his side in the hunt.
