Three weeks after an arrest warrant was issued for Diamond nightclub owner Freeman Fordyce, who was set to face charges for the trafficking of Venezuelan women, he appeared before a city court yesterday and was remanded to prison.

Fordyce, who arrived on his own accord, stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan during an in-camera hearing, where two charges were read to him.

It is alleged that between September 30th, 2018 and November 30th, 2018, he allegedly trafficked the two women for sexual exploitation.

Police prosecutor Neville Jeffers presented to the accused, through the court, statements relating to the matter.

Fordyce, who was represented by attorney Nigel Hughes, was then remanded to prison and is set to make his next court appearance before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on May 8th.

The current charges against Fordyce stem from a raid at his George Street club, where a number of foreign nationals were found by the police. The police carried out the raid after a video was posted on Facebook showing women scaling the fence to enter the locked compound.

On February 1st, Fordyce was handed a four-year suspended sentence for firearm and ammunition charges by Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty. That judgment is being appealed by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
