Guyana Jaguars all-rounder Christopher Barnwell recorded yet another match-winning performance abroad, this time in the TT Cricket Board National League Premiership two-day competition to guide Alescon Comets to a final round five-wicket win over league winners PowerGen on Sunday.
PowerGen which features Guyanese duo Royston Crandon and Ronsford Beaton, clinched the title on day one (Saturday) of the clash against Comets after earning enough bowling and batting points to widen the gap.
They ended the league on 129 points ahead of Comets (118) and Queen’s Park (116) for the top three spots in the eight-team league.
The final round clash between PowerGen and Comets saw the former batting first and being dismissed for 198 with the Guyanese Crandon recoding a knock of 60 while Red Force batsman Jason Mohammed (47) missed out on a milestone. Leg-spinner Imran Khan grabbed 4-48 to lead Comets’ bowling effort. However, Comets in their first innings reply, were skittled-out for 104 with Barnwell (29) top scoring. Left-arm spinner Kavesh Kantasingh (5-23) recorded yet another top showing in this year’s league.
PowerGen with a first innings lead of 94 runs, posted 156 before being dismissed in their second innings with Jeron Maniram (43) top scoring to gift the eventual league winners a 250-run lead. Comets nonetheless, completed the win, reaching 254-5 on the back of Barnwell’s unbeaten innings of 94 while the experienced Rayad Emrit (63) also contributed to the win. Guyanese Beaton snared 3-45 for PowerGen in a losing effort while Kantasingh (2-86) ended with seven wickets in the match.
