Gold is Money will match skills with Bent Street today in the grand finale of the inaugural Stag Beer Easter Futsal Championship at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.
The West Ruimveldt unit earned their place in the finale, after defeating fierce rival Sparta Boss 5-4 on sudden death penalty kicks in the semi-final round.
This result was made possible following impressive performances from Randolph Wagner, Romel Legall, Cleon Forrester, Michael Pedro, Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess and Jamal Pedro.
On the other side, Bent Street, a side littered with national players such as Daniel Wilson, Sheldon Holder, Pernell Schultz and Clive Nobrega, secured their place in the final, after downing North East La Penitence 7-4.
Prior to the commencement of the final, Sparta Boss and North East La Penitence will battle in the traditional third place playoff.
Similarly, several exhibition matches will be hosted before the commencement of the main matches. Among the attractions will be a Legends Match featuring the past stars who were instrumental in forging a path for the future success of the Futsal format.
This was revealed by tournament coordinator Frank ‘English’ Parris. According to Parris, “This match will bring together the stars of the previous era who were pivotal to the growth of the format. Players such as Omalli Nassy, Andy Duke, Eron Hyde, Gerald Grittens and Elroy Parks just to name a few who featured in the initial Futsal tournaments 19 years ago and were important in popularizing the format.”
He further said, “Fans can expect excitement in this match which pits the East Legends against the West Legends, who will attempt to turn back the clock and show that they still possess the skills that they use to display in earlier years.”
Winner of the event will pocket $700,000 and a trophy, with the second, third and fourth place finisher receiving $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
